Trumpets

Mark Grossen, trumpet: Mark began playing the trumpet at the young age of 12 during the 5th grade at West Union Elementary. He continued to play through the concert, jazz, and marching band at Hillsboro High and later performed with the jazz band at the University of Portland. Following college, Mark played in the Sunset Presbyterian Orchestra for the next 15 years. It wasn’t until 2011 that Mark joined the NoPo Big Band, making him one of the original, founding members!

Matt Caldwell, trumpet:  Matt grew up in Sacramento, Calif., where he played his trumpet in various bands and jazz combos through high school under the nickname "Miles." He attended college in the Portland area, where he played in a jazz combo with trombone player Mike Tolon for a short time. "I've always had a love for jazz, and I'm excited to get back to improving my skills and learning to be an overall better musician with NoPo." Matt currently teaches band and choir at Portland Christian High School.

Bruce Andresen, trumpet, treasurer, and music librarian:  Bruce enjoys the community focus of the group, and looks forward to sharing big band music with the North Portland neighborhood and beyond.

Sarvesh Garimella, trumpet: Climate scientist by day and trumpet player by night, Sarvesh grew up in Athens, GA and has played in bands from grade school through grad school. He has lived in all four corners of the US, most recently arriving in Portland in August 2016 and joining NoPo soon after.
